About Me

I’m not expecting many of you to

be that interested in my story but

for those of you who are…

Me.

For a long time I called myself a ‘Craft Addict’ as I just cant help myself from creating. I have always got a project on the go or a new idea I want to try or have come across a craft to have a go at but recently I met someone who had a much better way to describe that she called me a ‘Craft Butterfly’ because you flit from one craft to another and I prefer the way that sounds much more. So that’s me a craft butterfly, flitting around trying different crafts, enjoying other crafters works and sharing the skills and enthusiasm for handmade when i can.

How did it all start?

I cant remember a time when I wasn’t creating! As a kid from finger painting to Fimo, glueing, sticking, sewing and sawing! There was loads of encouragement from parents who never said no to the creative things, but helped me along by showing me how to use the sewing machine the drill and the jigsaw! So with encouragement like that there was no stopping me.

From finger painting to a business.

I always enjoyed art, design and getting my hands on making. That led me on to studying product design at what was then called The College of Bulding and Printng then at Glasgow Caledonian University where I finshed with a BAhons Product Design and then went on to complete a Masters in Product Design and Development and got a few more letters MSc. I thoroughly enjoyed my studies but with my love of creativity and making unfortunately that’s not where the jobs were.
So how did the business start? well I just couldn’t stop making and trying things out and I started to gift my makes to family and friends. Some of my friends started to ask for more of my makes to gift to their friends and family and almost by accident I started a business. My business and what I make had changed over the years with my interests and what has been popular with customers but I am still hand making and creating all the time.

What am i doing now?

It has taken me a long time to be in the position i am now where everything I am doing has some creative element to it. I have my Business, Lucy Jackson Designs, I make a variety of things that i sell; felt brooches and keyrings, purses, a range of bags, jewellery and i have recently started some adventures in clothing that  hope to bring to you soon. I sell my work in Mugdock Makkers Art and Craft Gallery in Mugdock country park where i also work two days a week managing the gallery. The gallery is run by the artists and crafters who display their work there so for me it is a fabulous place to be a part of both as a job and as a crafter. If you want to find out more about the gallery pop over to the website I also work a couple of days a week in a lovely independent fabric and yarn shop I Sew 2, I know, I know how did I luck out with that one? Im not sure but I joke with the customers that I just kept coming in and then one day just didn’t leave. It is a fabulous place to be with lovely customers, there are lots of workshops, classes and social events. As well as helping customers with their projects i teach some workshops here too, helping to spread creativity.
